Vegan Bridal Make-Up
Cruelty-free and vegan (wedding) make-up has never been as easy as it is today. Vegan-friendly products and brands are widely available online and in stores.
Much like my wedding dress, I decided to do my own make-up.
However, I would only recommend you do this if you are very experienced. I used to do my make-up for photoshoots a lot and I’ve been the personal stylist in my friend group for weddings for years.
Since I was a little girl, I loved painting my face and playing with colors.
I went through all sorts of crazy phases when it comes to make-up. Including shaving my eyebrows off and drawing them on in a thin line with a brush and ink, when I was a teenage goth.
With time I’ve gotten more and more settled with my make-up looks so my wedding look was pretty much the same as my usual go-to look for going out. The only difference was that I took some extra precautions in order to not melt away in the August summer heat.
For instance, I used some water-proof mascara and concealer (also to withstand all the tears of joy), a long-wear liquid lip stain (I only had to re-apply once the whole day) and setting spray.
I also kept some blotting paper with me to keep my face from becoming too shiny, without caking on more powder every 30 minutes.
But to be honest, I didn’t care about what my face looked like because I was busy having the time of my life.
Wedding Make-Up Tip:
Stay yourself, use a good setting spray, and keep blotting paper on you!
Here are some of the cruelty-free products I used in my vegan bridal look:
- Primer: High Spreadability Fluid Primer – The Ordinary
- Foundation: Naked Skin – Urban Decay
- Concealer: All Nighter – Urban Decay
- Setting Powder: De-Slick Mattifying Powder – Urban Decay
- Highlighter: I used a peachy shimmer pigment by Essence, that is no longer available, but I found this similar product: Baked Highlighter – e.l.f. (Shade: Apricot Glow).
- Blush: Rouge Love Flush – Too Faced (Shade: “I will always love you”, I later found out, that this shade is the only one that is NOT vegan.)
- Eyeshadow Primer: Primer Potion – Urban Decay
- Eyeshadow: Natural Matte Eyeshadow Palette – Too Faced + Highlighter
- Mascara: Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara – Too Faced (and fake lashes I forgot at home…)
- Eyebrows: Brow Wiz – Anastasia Beverly Hills
- Lips: Plushies Soft Focus Lip Veil – Limecrime (Shade: Marmalade)
- Setting Spray: All Nighter Make-Up Setting Spray – Urban Decay
Nails
I had my nails done at Maka Studio, where I still go to today.
My natural nails have always been very thin and brittle (no, it’s not because I’m vegan…), and I’ve always been clumsy. So I chose a gel manicure so I didn’t have to worry about breaking a nail.
Maka uses Luxio by Akzentz gels, which, according to their website, are vegan.
I chose a very natural, translucent look.
The Wedding Scent
This was by far the hardest thing to find for me. I desperately wanted a wedding scent, that would always take me back to the days leading up to the wedding and the day itself.
I wanted something summery and floral, that’s also fresh and not sweet.
In the end, I couldn’t choose or didn’t find “the one”, so I ended up wearing Hérmes – Rose Ikebana. It’s unfortunately NOT cruelty-free, but I had a perfume sample of it. This coincidentally is probably more sustainable than buying a whole bottle and having it go bad because you don’t wear it often enough, anyway.
And, what can I say, it absolutely worked! I really only wore it during the 2-3 weeks leading up to the day and immediately stopped after the wedding.
I now wear it on special occasions and it instantly takes me back.
I’m so happy I did this!
Memory Tip:
Wear a new fragrance only in the weeks leading up to your wedding and on the day of. It will immediately take you back, every time you smell it!
The Hair
My very talented friend Matthias did my hair. I sent him countless images of Grecian statues, Pre-Raphaelite paintings, and Dolce & Gabbana SS’14 runway shots as inspiration and I absolutely love how it turned out.

Bonus Tip:
Don’t forget the sunscreen!
